NEW: #PlayYellow Sunday Returns, Arkansas Children’s Northwest to Feature Patient Champions on the 18th Green

In partnership with Walmart, the #NWAChampionship once again encourages spectators to wear yellow on Sunday, Sept. 29 to show their support for Play Yellow, an initiative that raises money for pediatric care programs across the country. Locally, the initiative benefits Arkansas Children’s Northwest.

Play Yellow, a program of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, was founded by Jack and Barbara Nicklaus in 2019 in partnership with the PGA TOUR and CMN Hospitals. Play Yellow is named after the shirt that Jack Nicklaus wore in honor of a young boy named Craig Smith that he befriended in the ‘60s while he was in treatment for Ewing Sarcoma. One Sunday after Nicklaus had won a tournament, Craig told him he knew Mr. Nicklaus would win because Craig had been wearing his lucky yellow shirt. Craig passed away in 1971 and Jack Nicklaus often wore yellow on Sundays to honor his friend. Play Yellow is a movement to raise critical funds for children’s hospitals through the game of golf.

To raise awareness, #NWAChampionship spectators are encouraged to wear yellow on Sunday in support of the cause. The first 1,000 fans in attendance on Sunday will also receive a yellow hat or sunglasses, courtesy of Play Yellow.

New in 2024, Patient Ambassadors from Arkansas Children’s Northwest will join the LPGA Tour professionals on the 18th Green as they are concluding their round on Sunday for a front row seat to the action. The Patient Champions will have the opportunity to help tend the pin flag and interact with the players and caddies as they are finishing the round on Championship Sunday.

In addition, all proceeds from Walmart Associate tickets benefit Play Yellow and Arkansas Children’s Hospital Northwest. More information about Play Yellow can be found on the event’s official website.
