Ai Miyazato earned the Rolex Rankings No. 1 spot and her LPGA-best fifth victory of the year Sunday at the Safeway Classic at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore. Miyazato's final-round, even-par 72 was enough to hold of the former Rolex Rankings No. 1 Cristie Kerr and Na Yeon Choi. Miyazato, who is projected to earn the No. 1 ranking later today, finished the tournament at 11-under 205, two shots better than Kerr and Choi.
Miyazato and Kerr competed for much of Sunday's back nine with neither golfer able to pull away, until the 18th hole. Kerr, playing in the group ahead of Miyazato, put her approach shot in the water to the right of the green. Kerr was able to recover and score a bogey, but Miyazato parred the hole to secure the win.
