Jane Baker, volunteer transportation chairman for the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship Presented by John Q. Hammons, paid tribute to LPGA Acting Commissioner Marty Evans by dressing the commissioner’s parking sign with the appropriate Navy insignia. The sign bore a two-star emblem donating the rank of Rear Admiral – a rank which Evans held upon her retirement from the U.S. Navy in 1998.
How did Baker know to dress the sign accordingly? In mentioning to her son HMC Carl Baker (Ret.), who served in the U.S. Navy for over 21 years, that Evans was a Rear Admiral, he noted that Evans’ parking spot should be properly marked per her rank. Baker then researched Navy insignia and discovered the sign was in need of two stars, so she promptly contacted TSI, and the change was made.
Baker, who is volunteering for her tenth LPGA tournament, is pictured here with Evans. While eight of her 10 LPGA events were hosted in her hometown of Tulsa, Okla., this year Jane made the drive to Rogers, Ark.
